dear diary,

i had the untimely pleasure of insomnia last night and only the pleasure of music television to keep me company.

so i've been thinking about cover songs, this morning. doing a cover song is generally a band/artist's way of paying homage to a song or a band, no?and yet they rarely surpass the original in quality or meaning.

kid rock doing "feel like makin' love" is appropriately gross.

no doubt doing "it's my life" is a miniature arrow through my heart but i'll get over it. do people honestly like gwen stefani's whiney voice?

but limp bizkit covering "behind blue eyes" is an atrocity. how are you paying homage to the who? you aren't! i kept quiet when you ruined george michael's faith but this - this is a travesty.

so to you diary, you get a project.

name one cover song that surpassed the original.

because, i can't think of a single one.

[sidebar: obviously evan dando and johnny cash don't count because every piece of shit they touch(ed) turns to gold and there really are only so many times you can hear evan dando sing a whitney houston song before you want to knife his eyes]
